Floris Books’ 40th Birthday Party

If you’ve been following our blog for the last few months, you may know that 2016 marks forty years since Floris Books was founded. To celebrate, we invited our authors, illustrators, printers, agents, booksellers, distributors, members of the Christian Community, fellow publishers and more to our brand new office in Edinburgh to help us celebrate.
It was slightly chaotic in the run up to the party – at one point Catherine discovered her chair had been packed away – but everyone pitched in to make sure the party went to plan!
We know what people want at a party… ice cream! With sprinkles!
Our guests were treated to Floris-themed cocktails – fancy a No-jito Emporium, a Children of the Forest Fizz, or a Cosmopoli-tomte? We even had the cocktail bar lit up in Floris blue for the occasion!
And the fun didn’t stop there! Meet Floris Books F.C, ready for their match against Caleytown on our Scotland Stars Fussball Table.
Well, it’s not a real birthday party unless there’s cake now, is it? Editorial Assistant Jen did an amazing job of decorating these with our old and new logos.
Floris’ Publisher & Chief Executive, Katy Lockwood-Holmes, and founder, Christian McLean told the story of the company’s journey to middle age. Said Katy, “Even as we stand here in middle age, I firmly believe we have golden years ahead.”
The Great Wall of Floris Books
We wanted to create something special to commemorate our 40th birthday, and to showcase the work of our amazing authors and illustrators, without whom we wouldn’t be here. And so, The Great Wall of Floris Books was born!
It was all hands on deck to install the Great Wall – it’s rather large!
The idea was that guests would add their signature to the Wall – like a giant guest book. Here are Christian and Katy adding theirs.
