Description

Phoebe Wyss, an experienced astrologer, here examines all aspects of astrology in the light of the emerging worldview known as archetypal cosmology.

She sets out by exploring the classical roots of astrology in sources of wisdom found in the ancient Egyptian mysteries. She then follows the tradition to modern times through C.G. Jung's ideas on the nature of the psyche. She also discovers that the claims of astrology are entirely compatible with new cosmological thinking as envisioned by post-modern physics and chaos theory.

In the second part of the book, she proposes that the mathematical basis of astrology and the components of astrological charts are both archetypal and cosmic in scope. She argues that the twelve astrological archetypes make up a single ‘cosmic mind’, whose patterns are imprinted on all our individual minds.

Finally, she exemplifies this radical approach to astrology through an interpretation of the chart of William Blake.

Reviews

'Building on the work of Richard Tarnas and Kieron Le Grice on archetypal astrology, this fascinating book reaffirms the centrality of the microcosm-macrocosm/individual-universal correspondences and weaves it in with the work of Jung, especially on synchronicity, to present a vision of oneness that can respond to the loss of meaning in modern times and the need to renew our culture. Phoebe also offers a detailed analysis of the life of William Blake in the light of his natal chart as well as explaining the history, background and significance of archetypal astrology.'
-- David Lorimer, Scientific Medical Network Review

'Scholarship in the field of archetypal cosmology situates astrology in a rich lineage of ancient myth and philosophical speculation, and demonstrates its congruence with certain new-paradigm perspectives in modern science. Here Phoebe Wyss skilfully explores some major elements of this emerging vision, leading the reader from first principles to the practical application of astrology to individual biography. In a style both engaging and accessible, Inside the Cosmic Mind is a valuable and much-needed guide to the theory and practice of an archetypal approach to astrology.'
-- Keiron Le Grice

'This ambitious and highly erudite book seeks to present us with a worldview which could lead towards a renewed spirituality in which astrology plays a central role. As with all astrological traditions it rests on the presumption that human life, and the living world as a whole, is closely associated with the timeless order of the cosmos. The author's attempt to bring astrology back into the mainstream of modern thought is an interesting and provocative one, drawing on a remarkably wide spectrum of traditions, and propelling the argument with eloquence.'
-- J. J. Clarke, Professor Emeritus in the History of Ideas at Kingston University, London

'An interesting and readable introduction.'
-- Margaret Jonas, New View

'A well-argued contribution towards a new understanding of astrology.'
-- Scientific Medical and Network Review

'Not everyone's cup of tea, but an earnest attempt at a comprehensive synthesis.'
-- Fortean Times
