"I hope so." Kalila smiled. "If it does, I'm ready."

Kalila's favourite birthday present is a sunshine yellow rain poncho. It's been raining all week, but now the skies are clear. "Who needs rain?" thinks Kalila. She decides to wear it anyway.

Kalila wears her new sunshine rain poncho everywhere -- in the park, at the supermarket, at school, at dinner time... even in the bath! Dad tells her to take it off for bedtime, but she puts it right back on the next morning. There's still no sign of rain, but Kalila doesn't mind. She'll be ready when it comes.

This carefree picture book about self-expression encourages young readers to be unapologetically themselves, while grown-ups will chuckle at Kalila's familiar obsession with a new favourite possession. Author

Kashi Grobe is an author and filmmaker who began performing her stories as a child under the fruit trees at her aunt's house in rural Jamaica. Later she studied theatre directing and playwriting and attended film school in Los Angeles, USA. Kalila is Ready for Rain is Kashi's first picture book. She lives with her husband and children in Berlin, Germany.

Andrea Stegmaier is an illustrator and architect who turned her passion for children's books into a profession. She is the illustrator of many books including One Christmas in our Building, Time for Bed, Little Owls! and The High-Rise Cat. When she isn't drawing, Andrea can be found in her little garden or exploring the world with her family. She lives in Stuttgart, Germany.
