Description

In this remarkable book, Shulamit Elson writes with eloquence and authority about our soul’s journey, our place in the universe, and our relationship to God through prayer. In beautiful and simple words, she shares the ancient teachings and the sacred sounds of the Kabbalah.

With the help of her 'Maggid', a traditional Kabbalistic 'answering angel', Elson developed a series of meditative 'Sound Prayers', using sacred sounds made with the voice. She explains the theological, cosmology and esoteric foundations upon which 'Sound Prayer' is based.

This is a practical book that gives individual exercises as well as offering help on meeting specific challenges, including spiritual struggles, feelings of meaninglessness, and harsh self-judgement, as well as illness, fear, and anxiety.

Reviews

'As an introduction to the Kabbalah, its central image The Tree of Life, and a worthwhile practical way toward inner discovery, it is hard to imagine a better book.'
-- Ray Abis, Light, Summer 2005

'A remarkable book that begins with the arresting life story of the author, who as a high-flying executive found visions breaking in from another reality and was truly put through the hoops by life.'
-- Scientific and Medical Network Review, January 2005

'No mystical tradition better explores the intersecting mysteries of the human character and divine presence than the medieval Kabbalah and no writer offers a better primer in its contemporary practice and understanding than Shulamit Elson.'
-- Professor Bruce Chilton, Bard College

'One of the clearest distillations of Jewish spiritual teaching that I have ever read. Shulamit Elson writes from a place of "experiential" understanding of spiritual laws. Rather than shine light on the Kabbalah from the outside, she shines a light that illuminates the Kabbalah from within.'
-- Rabbi Jonathan Kligler, Woodstock Jewish Congregation

'Kabbalah of Prayer is a thing of beauty. With its astounding directness and simplicity it is real teaching, from one human soul to another.'
--Deborah Lawrence, President, Friends of the Institute of Noetic Sciences

'Only a great teacher can convey such wisdom with so light a touch; only a great healer can penetrate the soul with such grace. I cannot recommend this book more highly.'
--Roger J. Woolger, author of Other Lives, Other Selves

'An innovative and exciting approach to Jewish spirituality. This book can not only help reshape how Jews approach and engage in prayer, but it can also serve as an accessible entry point into the world of Jewish spirituality for any and all seekers.'
--Rabbi Joshua Grater, Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center

'This wonderful book is universal in its expression and appeal, and it is of value to the followers of any spiritual path.'
--Swami Atmarupananda, Ramakrishna Order

'The ability of Shulamit to resonate a note and interpret that response in physical and psychological terms is quite remarkable, as is her capacity to help and to heal.'
-- Z’ev ben Shimon Halevi (Warren Kenton) Director of Tutors, The Kabbalah Society
