Description

What happens to the poor plants when people snip off pretty rose flowers, pull the petals out of daisies, and tear off delicate poppy heads? They go to Flower Heaven, of course, where they are cared for by gentle flower angels and kept safe.

This delightful, beautifully illustrated book tells the story of one evening in Flower Heaven, as the flower angels welcome and tend for their new patients.

Author

Else Wenz-Viëtor (1882-1973) was probably the best-known and most prolific children's book illustrator in 1920s and 1930s Germany. She was born in Sorau, a town now in western Poland, and was brought up by her grandparents in Freiburg. It was from her grandfather that she acquired her love of plants and animals which would become favourite themes in her pictures. In 1903 she illustrated the first of over 150 books. She also worked as a freelance artist in the interior design industry. The Christmas Angels and On Christmas Eve are also available in English from Floris Books.

Sophie Reinheimer (1874-1935) was the author of many popular stories and poems for children in Germany in the 1920s and 1930s.
