Sharon Tregenza

Our 2008 winner, Sharon Tregenza, has been enjoying further success. Her novel Tarantula Tide won the Heart of Hawick Children's Book Award 2010. Congratulations, Sharon!
Set on Shetland in the north of Scotland, this exciting story of exotic pets, smuggling and friendship will keep you hooked. But be warned, this might not be the best read for people with arachnophobia!

Janis Mackay

Janis Mackay, the winner of the 2009 Kelpies Prize with Magnus Fin and the Ocean Quest, has been busy out and about, doing events in schools up and down the country. Her second Magnus Fin book, Magnus Fin and the Moonlight Mission, was published in February 2011. Will Magnus Fin and his selkie family be starring in any furture adventures? Watch this space!

Lari Don

It's not only our winning authors who get all the glory either! Lari Don, a runner-up in the 2007 Kelpies Prize, has won the Royal Mail Awards for Scottish Children's Books 2009 with her novel First Aid For Fairies and Other Fabled Beasts in the 8-11 years category. The sequel, Wolf Notes and Other Musical Mishaps, is available and book three, Storm Singing and Other Tangled Tasks was published in June 2011.

Douglas Bruton

Douglas Bruton's book The Chess Piece Magician, a runner-up in the 2008 Kelpies Prize, was published in autumn 2009. Douglas is a veteran of writing competitions and has had pieces published in numerous anthologies and magazines, but this is his first published novel. He currently works as a teacher in a high school near Edinburgh (in 2005 he was voted Forth One's Teacher of the Year!).

Annemarie Allan

Annemarie Allan won the 2007 Kelpies Prize with Hox. Annemarie's second novel, Breaker was published in spring 2009 and her third novel, Ushig was published in March 2010.

Mike Nicholson

Mike Nicholson won the 2005 Kelpies Prize with Catscape. Mike's second nove, Grimm was published in autumn 2008.
