This Year's Prize

Kelpies Design & Illustration Prize 2017 – now open!

Kelpies Design & Illustration Prize 2017

Are you a designer or illustrator based in Scotland? Ever wanted to see your design on bookshop shelves? Then the Kelpies Design & Illustration Prize is the competition for you!

We're looking for imaginative, talented designers and illustrators to create the cover of a new children's book in our Kelpies range of Scottish children's fiction for 8 to 12 year olds. The winner will receive a cheque for £250 and may be offered the chance to work with our design team to create the book's final published cover – meaning your design could be enjoyed by readers all over the world!

Entrants to the Kelpies Design & Illustration Prize 2017 have the opportunity to create a cover design for new children's novel Ruby McCracken: Tragic Without Magic by Kelpies Prize 2016 winner Elizabeth Ezra. The book will be published in autumn 2017. This sassy story about a young witch plunged into the Ordinary World has great scope for imaginative interpretation, be it through design, illustration or pure typography.

If you think you've got what it takes to create an eye-catching book cover that 8 to 12 year olds can't help but pick up, visit the How to Enter page for hints, tips and that all important design brief.

The Kelpies Design & Illustration Prize is open to all creatives who live, work, or study in Scotland. The deadline for entries is 27 January 2017 and the winner will be announced in February 2017.
