Description

Reuben lives on a farm with his dog Barney. Today they wake up and rush outside to start an exciting new day. They feed the chickens, pigs and rabbits, weed the vegetable patch and stop the naughty goats from eating all the flowers. They visit the cows, ride Chestnut the pony, and try not to get stung by the buzzy bees. They play outside in the fields and the orchard until it's time to go home for supper.

This bright, lively picture book is packed with character and movement. There are plenty of animals for young children to spot, and noises for them to join in with. Children will make friends with lovable Reuben and Barney as they play and carry out simple jobs on the farm.

Reviews

'Most children have a natural affinity for animals and this book certainly exploits that as Reuben and his dog Barney enjoy a busy and adventurous day on the farm ... There are plently of animals to name and spot, and children can enjoy making their sounds.'
-- Early Years Educator, March 2012

'Working on a farm is fun, especially when you do it with your best friend ... Kuiper and de Wolf pack their simple portrait with content, the straightforward text and loose, soft-focus, well-composed illustrations in perfect harmony ... Warm and subtly infectious.'
-- Kirkus Review

'The lively pictures are done in saturated colors which reflect a busy day on the farm.'
-- Carroll News

Author

Nannie Kuiper writes and translates books for young children. She has taught courses and written articles on the subject of child development. She has published many poems for children and has translated the poetry of A.A. Milne (Winnie the Pooh) and C.M. Barker (The Flower Fairies).

Alex de Wolf was born in 1958 just south of Amsterdam. A lifelong fan of the Tintin comics, he always intended to become a comic book writer. He studied illustration at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. He is married to publisher Martine Schaap, whose name he found irresistible (his name means 'wolf', hers 'sheep'). As well as illustrating many books for children, his dream finally came true when an American magazine publisher asked him to create the comic strip 'Mop and Family'.
