Description

Lizzie has been blind ever since a terrible accident when she was very young. Full of hope she and her brother, Davie, embark on a journey to St Triduana’s Well to seek a cure from the sacred water.

But their journey is filled with danger. It is the time of the Reformation in Scotland; churches are burning and people are fleeing for their lives.
The realization that the sinister leper who has followed their every movement is actually chasing them, quickly turns their excitement at their journey, into terror.

Reviews

Winner of the BBC Scotland/Scottish Library Association Quest for a Kelpie Award in 1998.

'A fast-paced story which gives a good picture of the time. Above all, it is a story of ordinary people suffering because of political decisions which they are powerless to change.'
-- Mary Moffat, Historical Novels Review

'Blends an exciting tale of personal courage with the historical context of the Reformation in Scotland.'
-- Scottish Children's Books, Autumn 2002

'The characterisation is easily accessible to young readers. Period details are well-drawn and the Reformation is sensitively handled, showing there were people of good will on both sides.'
-- Treasure Island: A guide to Scottish fiction for young readers aged 10-14, Summer 2003
