Reviews

'This is a beautiful book. I really enjoy Bernadette Watts' illustrations: they are detailed but soft, and the colours express such emotion. [...] A gorgeous book of 'happy ever after'.
-- Juno

'Berandette Watts has once again brough the story to life with her magical illustrations. The story is written in a simple beautiful way, showing how love triumphs over evil.'
-- Kindling

'The colorful textured illustrations are a beautiful complement to the classic tale... Readers who enjoy fairy tales will enjoy this lesser known story.'
-- Youth Services Book Review

'The text is clear, matter-of-fact, and frank... Most paintings are glowing, painstakingly colored nature scenes. Her soft illustrations are feathery, textured, layered, and strike just the right note between hope and despair to complement the narrative. VERDICT This tale has been skillfully illustrated with great imagination and is a welcome addition to fairy tale collections as an introduction to two lesser-known Grimm characters.'
-- School Library Journal Xpress

'Colorful, mystical illustrations.'
-- CBC Best Children's Book of the Year List
