WBD2015_yellow_rightdownThe days are getting longer, the nights are getting shorter, and today is a whole day for celebrating books! Lots of our authors have been out and about this week, shouting from the rooftops about how great books are and getting school kids using their imaginations to create brilliant stories. Read on to find out where they’ve been!

NyeChillAlex Nye is spending the day visiting schools in Stirlingshire to talk about her spooky stories Chill and Shiver. She’s also running a series of workshops for P5s and P6s exploring the Jacobite rising of 1715, using her books as a starting point and source of inspiration. If you’re a teacher and would like to find out more about registering your class for a workshop, click here.

The lovely Caroline Clough, author of Red Fever and Black Tide, is visiting schools in Edinburgh, Dundee and St Andrews this week, inspiring pupils with her thrilling adventure stories. Black Tide was shortlisted for last year’s Scottish Children’s Book Award in the Younger Readers category.

MacPhailDevilYouKnowAnd speaking of the Scottish Children’s Book Award, Cathy MacPhail won this years award in the Older Readers category for her gripping thriller Mosi’s War (published by Bloomsbury). She’s in Glasgow today to talk about her new novel Devil You Know as part of the Wee Write festival. Devil You Know will be available from 19th March.

Alex McCall, master of chicken puns and winner of the Scottish Children’s Book Award in the Younger Readers category, has also had an action-packed week. As well as winning the award, he’s had two events as part of Wee Write, as well as visiting schools in Falkirk and Peebles to talk about the egg-cellent Attack of the Giant Robot Chickens.

If you’re a fan of Norse Gods and mythology, you’ll love The Day the World Went Loki and Thor is Locked in My Garage! by Robert J Harris. Robert has been busy this week, visiting schools in Dundee and St Andrews (where the books are set) to bring a bit of mischief and mayhem to the pupils there.

DonFirstAidForFairiesNEAnd finally, the wonderful Lari Don has been flying around as many schools as she can squeeze in (we bet she wishes she had a dragon to help…) talking about all her books from picture books to teen thrillers and everything in between. Today, she’s author in residence at Blackwell’s in Edinburgh and will be chatting to over 200 school pupils about adventures, legends and the Fabled Beast Chronicles. If you fancy seeing Lari in action, she’s back at Blackwell’s this Saturday talking about picture books at 10.30 and adventure novels at 12pm. The events are free but ticketed.
