• The Kelpies Design & Illustration Prize — Shortlist Announced

    Kelpies Design & Illustration Prize LogoThis year, for the first time, Floris Books set out to find a talented new illustrator or designer to create the cover for children’s novel The Sign of the Black Dagger by Joan Lingard. Entries to the inaugural Kelpies Design & Illustration Prize came in thick and fast and since the closing date at the end of January, the judges have been considering the entries. They were not disappointed by the fantastic standard of work on display!

    The ten shortlisted entries will be featured in a special exhibition at Edinburgh’s Gallery Seventeen from 14th – 16th March. The winner and two runners up will be announced at a reception at Gallery Seventeen on Friday 14th March.

    We are delighted to announce that the ten shortlisted entries are (in alphabetical order):

    The book will be published by Floris Books – complete with a cover designed by the winning artist – in autumn 2014 as part of our Kelpies range of Scottish children’s novels.

    Leah McDowell, our Design and Production Manager, said: ‘We have seen an exceptional level of talent and creativity on display in what we hope will be the first of many Kelpies Design & Illustration Prizes. Scotland’s creative community has risen to the challenge and we hope that the prize will continue to grow year on year.’
